Thing #23 Summary

I can't even pretend to say that I understood all 23 Things - let alone complete the exercises. I'm not expecting an MP3 player and most likely wouldn't use it if I had one.
However,I felt a great sense of accomplishment by learning how to post onto a blog and was totally overwhelmed by all that was out there! I understand how our patrons can stare into a computer screen for hours - there are lots of interesting and funny things out there! It's also a creative way to communicate with your peer group. I truly appreciate the talent and time that puts all of this stuff together.
It was OK to work on this as long as there was someone to "help" at my side. Without that "help" it was very slow going and extremely frustrating!

I would be interested in more training of this type, but in a less ambitious way. My frustration level is at stake!

Thing #22 Podcasts

There are lots of programs avaialble on Podcasts. One of my favorites is Washinton Week, a program I like to watch on Friday evenings.
However, I can't always be in front of a TV to catch the actual program so Podcast would be another option.

Thing #21

This was a favorite video ( a large howling basset hound) that I watched on utube.

Thing #20

Special Treat?? I didn't get it. A montage of technolgy...

Thing #19

I haven't tried to listen to online music - seems like lots of work when I can easily tune in to my favorite radio station. I also wonder about the legalities and pirating issues of getting music from online sources.

Thing #18 Social Networks

Social Networks are the tools of certain generations to communicate and validate their social postions with peer groups.
Some people communicate in person, some by phone - some write letters and some blog - depending on communication style and what needs to be accomplished.
There is a great power to do good in social networks - unite people politically from great distances - create commonalities. There is also the opportunity to do destructive things - bully and threaten people.
Like so many other aspects of our society, social newtworks can be used for the good or for the bad.

Thing #17 Wikis

I examined the wikis cited and found them to be like mini homepages on subjects or specific events. Very helpful and useful.

Thing #16

Technoroti
Noticed the tags and authority in the blog postings. Read a blog (My Dog Ate My Blog) and didn't understanfd much of it. There's so much to take in.

Thing #15 Tags

I explored Delicious to examine tagged sites for popularity and comments.
I found a good recipe for carmalized toufu.

I don't quite understand how to use this tool - why not just use Google to bring up your most popular sites. Seems like a lot of work just for the sake of doing a lot of work...

Thing #4

Im looking forward to finishing this exercise and hopefully understanding something new to use in my job.

Thing #15 delicious

A way to organize all of your favorite sites...I guess.
I saw the comments, but really don't get it.

Thing 14

I explored 3 winning sites.
Judy's Book - coupons and deals available in your nighborhood - a site that could be featured for the Consumer's section of the Library.

LuLu -a good site for publishing and selling your own artistic creations.

Technorati - a great site for the latest political and governmental news as well as political blogs.

I think that all of these sites would be fun to teachand tell people about.

Thing 13

Zoho Writer
Programs that you access from anywhere - very convenient word processing applications that allow collaborations from others...like a conference call.
I would imagine this would be very helpful for business meetings and long distance education.

Thing #12

This is my customized search. This is good for searching all of you favorite sites at once.

Thing #11

Here are 5 books that I selected for LibraryThing

Thing #10

Much food for thought. Many library paradigms have changed and many are in the process of changing...it's not easily or quickly done. Libraries and librarians have often been eletist and territorial in their approach to collecting and gatekeeping. Computers are much more democratic but they have they have their difficulties as well. Not everyone finds working in cyberspace that accurate or convenient...

thing #9

I found my feeds on Blogline - great selection of topics.

Thing #8

Interesting but too confusing and time consuming to be practical. I have a life!

here are my choices to share -
